It’s finally summer! Time for you and the family to hit the beaches / water parks to keep cool. In the midst of having fun its important to make sure that our pets are kept cool and safe!

The best times to take your pets outside are in the early morning or late evenings, this will ensure that their exposure to heat is minimal. Hot pavement / asphalt can easily burn pets’ paws, so make sure you keep your pets on the grass as much as possible during walks.

It’s important to keep your pets hydrated all day. Specially if you have to work during the week! Keep their bowl of water in a shaded cool area of the house where the son can’t reach and to keep their water cold for longer try to give them colder than usual water early in the day with an added (1) Ice-cube to keep the water cooler longer.
If you think your pet is experiencing heatstroke, quickly move them into a cool air-conditioned place. Apply cold ice towels or ice packs to their head, neck and chest or put your pet in the bathtub and gently run cool, not cold water over his body.
Unlike us pets sweat through their paws & pant through their mouths to try to cool down. Panting lets them remove the moisture from their lungs, which cools down their body. Downside is, if humidity levels are too high, animals can’t cool off their body, which can cause health issues.

If you keep pets outdoors, make sure they have plenty of protection from the heat & the sun. Big trees, patios with large awnings provide ample shade for pets.
If you decided to leave them alone for extended periods of time, don’t leave your pets outdoors. Even with shade, pets can become overheated outside, especially during a heat wave. Bring pets inside where it’s cool and safe for them.
Vitakraft Sun Seed Inc. of Weston, OH, is voluntarily recalling certain Sunseed Parrot Fruit & Vegetable diet and Sunseed SunSations Rabbit Food due to a potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
Listeria monocytogenes are present in the gut of birds and rabbits. Household pets such as birds and rabbits carry a risk to humans. Even if the birds and rabbits do not appear to be sick after consuming foods containing Listeria monocytogenes, they can become carriers of Listeria monocytogenes and transfer Listeria monocygenes to the environment.
Vitakraft Sun Seed was notified on June 14, 2017 by its supplier of dried apples that the ingredient has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
Although there has been no reported evidence of direct contamination of the dried apples, our supplier has initiated the recall. To date there have been no report of any illness.

Loving Pets produces its treats in small batches, in order to offer the highest quality and control in safety.
To ensure the safety of its products, Loving Pets decided to be extra cautious and recall a wider range of lot numbers (noted above) so that no possible contaminated product is available on the market.

Visible red light is capable of being absorbed by the molecules of the skin and hair follicles stimulating the growth or re-growth of the cells following a natural biological reaction. Additional benefits include the healing of wounds and various other skin conditions, improves or restores range of motion, reduces inflammation, pain and much more. LumaSoothe’s Surface Treatment Head (ST) features 16 – Red, 650nm LED’s.

United Pet Group, a division of Spectrum Brands, Inc. is voluntarily recalling multiple brands of packages of rawhide dog chew products that were distributed to retail outlets and sold online in the U.S. The recall involves the brands and products described below.
The recall was initiated after United Pet Group identified that certain of its rawhide chew manufacturing facilities located in Mexico and Colombia, as well as one of its suppliers in Brazil, were using a quaternary ammonium compound mixture as a processing aid in the manufacturing of rawhide chews. The compound is an anti-microbial chemical that is approved for cleaning food processing equipment, but it has not been approved in the U.S. as a processing aid in the production of rawhide chews for dogs.

When it comes time to treating your Pets Skin Condition, should you result to drugs or use natural healing methods?
Just like us our pet’s can have skin related issues (such as Mange, Yeast Infections). Yeast is a fairly common inflammatory skin condition in pets. The condition is typically caused by overgrowth of the Malassezia species of yeast, which are normal inhabitants of the skin, ears and other areas of the pet’s body.

The infections occur when the yeast reproduces uncontrollably, overpopulating and invading the areas where it normally resides. Usually this will occur when your pet’s immune system becomes compromised and/or strong immunosuppressive drugs are being used. Pets with excessive skin folds such as the brachycephalic (Bulldogs, Pugs) breeds of dogs are at increased risk!
Symptoms of yeast infection may include:

The Typical treatment prescribed is a drug called Diflucan (Generic: Fluconazole). It can cost anywhere from $76+ (30ct bottle) and up, depending on the numbers pills prescribed per refill and requires a prescription!
Possible side-effects for Fluconazole include:

Is there an alternative to drugs?
Yes there is! the technology is called Low Level Light Therapy and it’s treatments are safe, effective and an alternative to using prescription drugs!
LumaSoothe’s Low Light Therapy for Pets uses the power of natural light to deliver therapeutic benefits to your pets skin, hair and body. LumaSoothe’s Surface Treatment (ST) Module helps correct hyperpigmentation, reduce skin freckling, eliminate bad bacteria such as yeast, mange and helps regrow lost hair from several conditions including alopecia. LumaSoothe is a great alternative and can work in conjunction with medication already prescribed by your veterinarian!
As always we recommend for you to talk with your veterinarian about the alternatives to medications. Picking the alternative can help you avoid possible bad side effects associated with any prescription or over the counter drugs for your pet’s condition.
